Bridal | Plunging Necklines at the 2021 Oscars

From the Oscars red carpet to your walk down the runway, SIGNATURE BRIDE took note of the bridal trends that shined bright at the 93rd annual Academy Awards.

We want to keep you in the know about one of the season’s hottest bridal trends to add to your wedding dress shopping list—plunging necklines—and the latest twists on the traditional suit.

Plunging necklines dominated as celebrities were happy to get back into the swing of pre-pandemic life and show off their melanin on the Oscars red carpet. Plunging necklines have been around since forever! They can certainly add a modern, bold and sexy twist to your wedding day.

Regina King dominated the trend with a custom Louis Vuitton pale blue duchess satin winged gown made of 62,000 sequins and 3,900 crystals. Switch the dress color to white and own the aisle like a queen of bling!

Viola Davis, who was nominated for her leading role in the film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, looked stunning in her Alexander McQueen embroidered appliqué dress with a chiffon skirt.

Halle Berry brought the drama in a whimsical, mauve-toned chiffon Dolce & Gabbana gown accented with a dramatic plunging sweetheart neckline that could work beautifully at a garden courtyard ceremony or even a wedding at the beach.

And Oscar-winning songwriter Tiara Thomas dazzled in a white feathery jumpsuit with a sexy deep plunge by Jovana Louis Benoit.

Bridal brands continue to show their take on the plunging neckline trend as the look makes a big resurgence on the runways this season. This trend works for the bride who is bold, fearless and unapologetic about her femininity. For brides who want to give the illusion of an elongated neckline, this trend could help do the trick for you, too. From sweetheart to deep, the great element of this trend is that you own the plunge—go as deep as you see fit to make the dress your own. Show off your décolletage: Be bold, be sexy and watch heads turn.

The men at the 2021 Oscars did not disappoint. They showed up and showed out with bold color, unconventional silhouettes, 24-karat rich textures and even a jumpsuit—offering a refreshing twist on the traditional suit. SIGNATURE BRIDE took a look at the eye candy and picked five of our favorites. All of these looks may not make it to the alter, but they just might inspire your guy to add something fresh to his wardrobe.

Hot pink isn’t typically a color that most men can pull off in a head-to-toe monochromatic look, but Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom actor Colman Domingo is an exception—wearing a custom Versace suit adorned with 4,500 Swarovski crystals and sequins down the jacket and shirt. Accented by David Yurman jewels and Christian Louboutin shoes, Domingo pushed the envelope, and it was haute!

Sporting a Brioni double-breasted suit to the red carpet, Oscar-nominated singer and actor Leslie Odom Jr. wore a luxurious jacquard fabric woven with authentic 24-karat gold and accented by a statement Cartier ring.

Lakeith Stanfield clearly walks to the beat of us his own drum, wearing a belted ’70s-inspired jumpsuit with a plunging V-neck and a crisp white collared shirt by Saint Laurent. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in Judas and the Black Messiah, and although he didn’t take home an Oscar, Stanfield’s smooth look was arguably the best male jumpsuit we have seen on the red carpet, yet.

Instagram @travon

Comedian Travon Free used his custom yellow Dolce & Gabbana blazer to not only make a fashion statement but a social justice one—with a tribute to victims of police brutality inscribed in the lining of his jacket.

Rounding out the list is director and philanthropist Tyler Perry, who gave us classic luxe with his custom Giorgio Armani look with Stubbs & Wootton shoes and custom Dita glasses.

Bravo to all of these gentlemen for pushing the fashion envelope! Their bravery might inspire your guy to take a fashion risk down the aisle.
